Nature trail on the Panorama Hiking Trail in Alpendorf
As unique as the country itself, this little parcel of land on the Panorama Hiking Trail between the Hotel Alpenhof and the Weitenmoss Youth Hostel gives you access to the complete population of Austria’s carnivorous and deciduous trees – over 30 different kinds – in one small area.
The trail is nicely laid out with billboards for each variety describing such things as origin, uses, fruit and general characteristics.
Visitors will be pleased to find resting places along the way with interesting information about the general state of Austria’s forests (cutting, annual depletion, annual rate of re-forestation etc.). Information regarding the Biomass Power Plant in Sankt Johann-Alpendorf is also provided.
Children and adults alike will have fun with the “wood recognition station”, the “tree-top mirror” and the “tree-hugging station”. There are also resting places with wooden sunning umbrellas and relaxing sunning loungers to make this outing both informative and enjoyable.
