The two-spired church with its gothic wood imageries was first mentioned in a document in 924 and is the landmark of Sankt Johann. After a devastating fire in 1855 the church was completely destroyed and rebuilt between 1855 and 1861. Thanks to its imposing location above Salzachtal valley and its majestic interior, the cathedral is one of the major religious edifices around.
